💡 Pro tip: Always check food 2-3 minutes before the calculated time. Every air fryer cooks differently.

Air Fryer Pro Tips

Don't overcrowd

Air fryers need airflow. If food is stacked, it will steam instead of crisp. Cook in batches if needed.

Use a little oil

A light spray of oil (1 tsp per serving) helps food crisp up. Use an oil sprayer for even coverage.

Flip halfway

Flip or shake the basket halfway through for even browning on both sides. Fries benefit from shaking every 5 minutes.

Pat food dry

Excess moisture = steamed, not crispy. Pat meats and marinated foods dry with paper towels first.

Use a thermometer

The only way to know meat is done is with a food thermometer. Chicken = 165°F, pork = 145°F.

Toast at the end

Want extra crispiness? Crank up 25°F for the last 2-3 minutes. Watch carefully — it burns fast!

How the Conversion Works

Air fryers cook faster and more efficiently than conventional ovens because they circulate hot air directly around the food. The general rule of thumb is:

Reduce temperature by 25°F (about 15°C) and reduce cooking time by about 20%.

But there are variables. Basket-style air fryers cook faster than oven-style ones. Small air fryers cook faster than large ones. And every brand is a little different.

That's why we always recommend checking food 2-3 minutes before the calculated time the first time you make something in your air fryer. Once you learn how yours behaves, you'll get a feel for the right adjustments.
